SPRING IDENTIFICATION CAMPS A PROVEN PIPELINE TO BULLDOGS ROSTER FOR BCHL PROSPECTS

The Alberni Valley Bulldogs have announced that the organization will hold a trio of 2018 Spring Identification Camps in April and May in order to identify potential new players for the 2018/19 British Columbia Hockey League season and beyond. Registration for all three camps is now open.

The team’s Spring Identification Camps have played a critical role in shaping this season’s Alberni Valley roster, as nine current players got their start with the club after showcasing themselves for Bulldogs coaches and scouts at previous camps.

The Bulldogs will hold their two traditional camps in Port Alberni from April 6-8 and Osoyoos from May 4-6. The club has also unveiled a third camp to be held in Cranbrook from April 27-29 that it hopes will draw additional talent from Western Canada and the northwest United States.

“Our Spring Identification Camps have a proven track record for identifying future Bulldogs players,” says Head Coach & General Manager Matt Hughes. “We put a great deal of time and effort into running professional, competitive camps that expose players to the level of play in the BCHL. These camps also give us an opportunity to showcase our educational advancement programs under Tom McEvay, who we know to be one of the best academic advisors in Canada.”

“We know that the level of play at our Port Alberni and Osoyoos camps will be high, but we’re excited to see what comes of getting into Eastern B.C. with the camp in Cranbrook,” says Hughes. “There are some excellent KIJHL programs in that part of the province and we’re also going to be a close drive for families from Calgary as well as American players  from down in Spokane and over into Idaho and Montana.”

Spring Identification Camps run three days (Friday to Sunday) and include fitness testing, four camp games, an education seminar and a one-on-one exit interview with Bulldogs coaches. They are open to players born between 1998 and 2003. The cost to participate in a Spring Identification Camp is $275 (includes tax).

Goaltenders who spent the 2017/18 season playing at the Junior B, Midget AAA (BCMML/AMHL) or CSSHL level are welcome to register. Those who did not play at one of these levels but feel they can compete at a Junior A camp should email Assistant Coach/Assistant GM Jeff Dubois (jeff@albernivalleybulldogs.ca) with a brief outline of their playing experience over the past three seasons and he will reply to each application.
