After Emotion Filled Blowout Win, Bulldogs Look for Final Blow Against Capitals

The Alberni Valley Bulldogs won their 2nd straight game over the Cowichan Valley Capitals on Saturday night at the Dawg Pound.  The emotion filled 9-3 win set the stage for tonight’s contest at 6:00 pm, also here at the Multiplex.

The scoring came early and often last night as the Bulldogs built a 3-1 lead before the game was 10 minutes old.  They would go on to add 3 more in the 2nd, and 3 more in the 3rd to cap off the blow out.

David Sacco netted his 1st career BCHL hat trick as his goal total ballooned from 3 to 6 on the season. Chase Klassen (9 & 10) and Matt Kursonis (8 & 9) each scored twice, while Matthew Maltais (10th), and Mason Croucher (3rd) scored singles to round out the scoring.  Kursonis also chipped in with 2 assists for a 4 point night, a career high for him.  Sacco also had a pair of assists for a 5 point night, and 1st star honours on the night.

Nicholas Beneteau extended his point-streak to 17 games with a two assists.  The 17 game streak matched the streak of Penticton’s Bradley Nadeau from Sept 23rd to Nov 11th.  Beneteau has 6 goals and 23 assists during the 17 game stretch.

The two teams combined for 75 minutes in penalties in a game that had 9 misconduct penalties between the 2 teams.

Hobie Hedquist earned the win in goals for the Bulldogs as he stopped 27 of 30 on the night.

With the win, the Bulldogs improved to 26-17-3-1 and moved back into sole possession of 3rd place in the Coastal Conference.  The Caps meanwhile dropped their 6th straight and fell to 10-33-2-2 on the year.

After tonight’s game, the Bulldogs will hit the road for a pair of crucial games against the Victoria Grizzlies.  The Grizzlies are currently 2 points behind the Bulldogs with 1 game in hand. The Grizzlies have been solid at the Q Centre all season with just 4 regulation losses.
