Buhr Leads Bulldogs Past Eagles in Big Road Win

The Alberni Valley Bulldogs were led by Brandon Buhr’s 3 goal effort as they defeated the Surrey Eagles 6-3 at the South Surrey Arena on Friday night.

The trio of goals for Buhr were his 9th, 10th and 11th goals of the season in his best single-game effort since re-joining the Bulldogs from Clarkson University before Christmas.

Will Elger (17th), Braden Blace (5th) and Matthew Maltais (13th) also scored for the Bulldogs who led 2-1 after the 1st period, and 5-2 after 40 minutes of play.

Hobie Hedquist picked up the win in goal as he stopped 27 of 30 for his 24th win of the year.

With the victory, the Bulldogs improved to 29-19-3-1 and are now 19-4-1 since the Christmas break.  Surrey fell to 31-16-2-1 with the loss, their 3rd straight.

The Bulldogs moved to 62 points in the jam-packed Coastal Conference race for playoff seeding.  While Victoria won again, the Bulldogs received some help as the Coquitlam Express, and the Chilliwack Chiefs dropped their games.

The scene is now set for a huge game tomorrow in Chilliwack.  A victory in that contest would go a long way to helping the Bulldogs secure home ice advantage for at least the opening round of the Shaw BCHL playoffs.
