Bulldogs Blank Caps for 3rd Straight Win

The Alberni Valley Bulldogs got three 3rd period goals to pull away from a pesky Cowichan Valley Capitals squad and earned a 4-0 shutout victory for their 3rd straight win.

Brandon Buhr paced the offence with with his 11th and 12th goals of the season, while Ethan Leyer (8th) and Nicholas Beneteau (7th) also scored in the victory.

Hobie Hedquist earned 1st star honours with 34 saves for his league-leading 4th shutout of the season.  Hedquist is now just one shutout behind the franchise record of 5 in a season held by Brian Stewart back in 2005-2006.  The win improved Hedquist’s record to 13-4-0-3 with 2.46 GAA and a .915 save percentage.

Matthew Maltais made his Bulldogs debut and impressed on a line with Chase Klassen and Nicholas Beneteau.  The trio was finally rewarded late in the 3rd as Beneteau finished a pretty feed from Maltais who picked up his 1st BCHL assist on the play.

The power play was 1 for 2 on the evening, while the penalty kill unit remained hot killing all 3 Cowichan Valley chances on the night.

The win improved the Bulldogs overall record 18-9-3-0 and they remain 3rd in the Coastal Conference as Chilliwack kept pace with a 4-3 over the Coquitlam Express.  Cowichan falls to 8-22-0-1 with the loss.

The Bulldogs will next host the Nanaimo Clippers on Wednesday evening in a crucial inter-conference match-up.  The game is presented by Robbins & Co and puck drop is set for 7:00 pm.
