Bulldogs Clipped in Overtime

The Alberni Valley Bulldogs were in action Saturday night as they played host to division rival Nanaimo in front of 1481 fans.

The first period from Weyerhaeuser Arena was scoreless with both teams firing 8 shots apiece. The second period saw Mitch MacMillan, set up by Evan Witt and Brett Mohler, get the Bulldogs on the board first just 21 seconds into the period. The Clippers replied when Connor Krukovski tallied. MacMillan restored the lead for the Bulldogs when the former Okanagan Hockey Academy player, connected with Witt and Mohler again. Colton Cyr evened the score for Nanaimo going into the third period. The third Matthew Wong hold the fort for the Bulldogs as they were outshot 13-6 to send the game into overtime. In overtime, Anders Franzon ended the game when he scored at 4:34 of the first overtime to give the Clippers the win.

Matthew Wong was strong in the Bulldogs net, turning aside 38 of the 41 shots sent his way. Evan Smith picked up the win in the Clippers net, stopping 27 shots.

Notes: Mitch MacMillan was named the games first star, as he recorded his 6th and 7th goal for the Bulldogs since being acquired from Cowichan Valley. Brett Mohler and Evan Witt both recorded multiple point nights as they set up both of MacMillan?s goals. Next action for the Bulldogs is Sunday November 16th, when they travel to Powell River to take on the Kings.
