The Alberni Valley Bulldogs improved to 2-0-0-0 on the young pre-season with a 6-2 win over the Cowichan Capitals on Saturday night at the Multiplex.
Much like last night’s 5-1 win, the Bulldogs got off to a quick start again as Cam Newson beat Caps goalie Jayden Shull at the 4:36 mark of the opening period.
In the 2nd the Bulldogs would add two more as Jimmy Rayhill and Mattias Dal Monte each scored to stretch the Bulldogs lead to 3-0 after 2 periods.
In the 3rd, Stephen Castagna got his 1st goal to make it 4-0 before the Caps Brendan Kerr scored a beauty to get Cowichan on the board. Dawson Tritt pushed the lead to 5-1 before the Capitals got a late power play goal to close the gap to 5-2. Castagna put the game away with his 2nd of the period into the empty net with just :40 seconds remaining in the game.
Luke Pearson picked up the win in goal as he made 20 saves on the night. Jayden Shull turned aside 28 Bulldogs shots. Bulldogs were 1 for 6 with the man-advantage while the Caps were 1 for 4.
The Bulldogs will travel to Duncan next weekend for another pair against the Capitals before their 14-day quarantine break kicks in so they can join the Clippers & Grizzlies.
