Bulldogs drop close decision to Kings

Powell River’s Ryan Bridgett scores early in the third period to break a tie game and lead the Kings to a 2-1 victory over the Bulldogs on Sunday at the Alberni Valley Multiplex.

Jackson Doucet opened the scoring when he batted a puck out of mid-air on a first period power play, but Rowan Miller tied the game minutes later when he was sprung on a breakaway with a long pass from the Kings’ defensive zone.

The teams played a scoreless second period, and the Bulldogs couldn’t find the back of the net in the third despite a number of great chances in front of Powell River netminder Matteo Paler-Chow.

Alberni Valley was outshot 33-28, with John Hawthorne making 31 saves while being named the game’s second star.

The Bulldogs are back in action Wednesday night when they travel to face the Cowichan Valley Capitals. Faceoff is set for 7:00 PM.
