Bulldogs drop New Year’s Eve tilt to Clippers

The Alberni Valley Bulldogs dropped their final game of 2018, coming up short against the Nanaimo Clippers by a 6-2 score on Monday afternoon in a New Year’s Eve matinee at the Alberni Valley Multiplex.

The Clippers opened the scoring in the first period when Jonathan Stein poked home a rebound off a Hunter Torzsok shot, and Nanaimo built their lead to three on goals from Kyler Kovich and Tyler Williams.

Aaron Bohlinger put the Bulldogs on the board early in the second period when he scored with two seconds remaining on a Clippers penalty, but Williams banged in a loose puck minutes later to restore Nanaimo’s three goal lead. Cole Demers allowed four goals on 18 shots before giving way to John Hawthorne midway through the period.

The Bulldogs attempted a third period comeback for the second night in a row and got off to a good start when Ryan Miotto scored to make the game 4-2, but Nanaimo scored twice more to put things out of reach.

The Bulldogs are next in action on Wednesday night in Victoria before returning home to host the Wenatchee Wild on Saturday night at 7:00 PM.
