Bulldogs Drop OT Decision

The Bulldogs were in action in an afternoon affair, as the Powell River Kings visited the Weyerhaeuser Arena Sunday.

James Kerr kicked off the scoring with a power play marker midway through the first frame. Shae Naka and Evan Witt picked up assists on Kerr?s first of the season.  Darcy Oakes replied on a goal set up by Brooks Robinson and Mat Bodie to even the score going into the intermission.

The Kings? Jordan Gallea and Kyle Bodie notched power play goals to kick off the second period. Zack Mazo replied with his first of the season, a shorthanded tally, late in the period to cut the lead to 3-2 going into the final frame.

In the third Mazo picked up where he left off with a power play goal set up by Evan Witt and Kerr. Clay Harvey replied for the Kings to restore their 1 goal lead. Completing his hat trick, Mazo added another power play goal set up by Kevin Ross to send the game to overtime.

In the second overtime period Erik Vos beat Matthew Wong to give the Kings the win. Darcy Oakes drew the assist.

Wong continued his strong play stopping 49 shots including 6 in overtime in the loss for the Bulldogs. Chad Ketting picked up the win for the Kings stopping 35 of the 39 shots sent his way.

Notes: The Kings came into the game with 4 of the top 5 scorers in the BCHL. The second period featured a spirited fight between the Bulldogs Taylor Orser and the Kings Kyle Leahy. Newcomer Eric Fraser made his Bulldogs debut and picked up 2 minutes in penalties. Next action for the Bulldogs is Friday, September 19th when they travel to the Cowichan to take on the Capitals.
