Bulldogs end losing streak with come from behind win over Powell River

POWELL RIVER- The Alberni Valley Bulldogs snapped a six game losing streak on Saturday night by downing the Kings 3-2 in overtime.

The Bulldogs were without the services of a number of regulars on Saturday including Luke Pearson. So emergency backup goaltender Carlos Siso got the start and stole the show.

The Kings would out shoot the Bulldogs 13-8 in the opening period and score the only goal late with just 1:25 to go on the power-play.

Jacob Bosse would notch his 13th goal of the season for the Bulldogs off a deflection early in the second period tie the game up 1-1. However the lead was short lived as the Kings would take it back on the power-play.

Down 2-1 to open the third, the Bulldogs would kill off three straight Kings’ power-plays thanks to some terrific saves from Siso. Then just like the Bulldogs have done time and time again this season, they found a way to tie the game up in the final seconds. On the power-play, Caige Sterzer would have a shot go off his leg and into the back of the net, his 8th tally of the season. The game would head to the extra frame tied 2-2.

The Kings would get the first scoring chance in overtime, but Siso shut the door with a great stick save. On the following possession the Bulldogs would attack the Kings zone and Tommy Bannister would end it. The Clayton, New York product buried his 10th marker of the season off a great release in the slot.

Siso turned away 29 shots to pick up his first win in the BCHL. The Bulldogs are now 25-24-1-2 on the season and will return home before heading out back on the road next weekend.

The Bulldogs went 1 for 5 on the power-play while the Kings went 1 for 7 on the power-play.

NEXT UP: The Bulldogs hit the road next weekend for three games in three days. Friday in Trail, Saturday in Penticton and Sunday afternoon in Merritt.
