The Alberni Valley Bulldogs closed out a high-energy weekend with a statement road win on Valentines Day and a hard-fought Family Day battle.
Saturday, February 14 – Bulldogs 5, Rivermen 3
The Bulldogs stormed into the George Preston Recreation Centre and erupted for four second-period goals to take down the Langley Rivermen 5–3 in an electric road performance.
After trailing 2–1 after 20 minutes, Alberni Valley completely flipped the script in the middle frame.
Teague McAllister caught fire with back-to-back power-play goals (14th and 15th of the season), swinging momentum firmly in the Bulldogs’ favour. Kye Benoche added another with the man advantage, and Jackson Lackas buried his second of the night to cap a dominant stretch that stunned the home crowd.
The Bulldogs went a clinical 3-for-4 on the power play and slammed the door defensively in the third. Despite being outshot 39–32 overall, Alberni Valley allowed just four shots in the final period.
Derik Brouillard was rock solid, turning aside 36 of 39 shots to secure the win.
Three Stars:
Teague McAllister (2G)
Jackson Lackas (2G)
Sam Allaby (1G, 1A – Langley)
It was a statement victory — fast, opportunistic, and powered by special teams.
Monday, February 16 – Chiefs 3, Bulldogs 1
The Bulldogs then headed to face the always-tough Chilliwack Chiefs on Family Day, battling through a physical and emotionally charged contest that saw the intensity ramp up as the game wore on.
Chilliwack struck late in the first on the power play and added another just 41 seconds into the second to grab control early.
But the Bulldogs pushed back.
At 3:37 of the third period, McAllister continued his scorching weekend, ripping home his 16th of the season on the power play to cut the deficit to 2–1 and breathe life into the comeback bid.
The game boiled over midway through the third with multiple penalties and misconducts handed out as both teams refused to give an inch.
Alberni Valley pressed hard for the equalizer, but Chiefs goaltender David Di Girolamo stood tall with 24 saves. A late Chilliwack power-play goal sealed the 3–1 final.
Brouillard turned aside 24 of 27 in another steady performance.
Overall through their road trip, The Bulldogs showed offensive punch, resilience, and edge — exactly the type of hockey needed as the playoff race tightens. With special teams clicking and key players heating up at the right time, Alberni Valley continues to push forward with purpose.
We are looking forward to welcoming them back to the Dawg Pound February 20th when they take on the Victoria Grizzlies as we head into Bulldogs Parents Weekend.
