Bulldogs Fall Short in Wild 8-7 Game

The Alberni Valley Bulldogs couldn’t come away with a victory after falling to the Powell River Kings in a goal-filled game. Which saw a final score of 8-7.

And the teams were off and running in the opening frame. The Kings would open the scoring, but the Bulldogs would answer quickly on the powerplay from Ethan Bono (3) to tie it 1-1.

However, the Kings would score two more shortly after, forcing a goalie change just under 13 minutes into the game after it became 3-1 for the Kings. The Bulldogs would respond before the end of the opening frame as Bono would score his second of the game to make it a 3-2 game heading into intermission.

In the second, the goals would keep coming. Josh Zary (7) would tie it 3-3 just over five minutes into the period, but the Kings followed suit and took the lead back once again to make it 4-3.

Just over two minutes later, Zary would score again and tie it at 4-4 with a shorthanded goal. But the Kings would respond in a big way, scoring three unanswered goals in five minutes and three seconds to make it a 7-4 game.

However, the Bulldogs would not go down quietly, as Ethan Leyer (3) and Josh Van Unen (9) would close the gap to make it a 7-6 game.

In the third, the Kings would double their lead again, but Nicholas Beneteau (4) would keep it close until the end, but it wasn’t enough as the Bulldogs would fall 8-7.

The final shot totals were 42-36 for the Kings. Bulldogs went 1-6 on the powerplay and the Kings went 1-6 with the man advantage.

The next Bulldogs game will be in just under a week, as the Bulldogs will play host again, this time to the Langley Rivermen on Wednesday, November 24th.
