Bulldogs Get Clipped in Nanaimo

The Alberni Valley Bulldogs were in Nanaimo Friday night to take on the defending Costal Conference Champion Clippers.

The Bulldogs opened the scoring when Warren Muir scored his first of the night, set up by Chris Moulson.  The Clippers replied to even the score heading into the intermission on a Joe Perry goal.

Brad McConnell scored the only goal of the second, on the power play, to give the Clippers a 2-1 lead heading into the final frame.

In the third, special teams were the deciding factor, with the Clippers scoring three times on the power play. Colton Cyr, Justin Favreau and Steve Mason all tallied for Nanaimo with the man advantage. Muir notched his second goal of the game, a power play marker, with Moulson and Evan Witt drawing the assists to make the final 6-2.

Evan Smith picked up the win in the Clippers net, stopping 25 shots. Matthew Wong made 25 saves for the Bulldogs, before giving way to Colin Rundell with 13:54 left in the third period. Rundell made 13 saves in his Bulldogs debut.

Notes: Alberni and Nanaimo have identical power play percentages at 16.67 %. Warren Muir was named the Third Star of the game playing in his hometown, Nanaimo. Next action for the Bulldogs is Saturday September 27th, when they play host to the Powell River Kings.
