Bulldogs Host Surrey Looking for 6th Straight Win

Winners of 5 straight, the Alberni Valley Bulldogs (15-15-2-1) host the Surrey Eagles (22-7-2-1) on AV News Carries Night night at the Dawg Pound.  Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 pm.

The Bulldogs picked up their 5th straight win to climb back to .500 last night in dominating fashion with a 5-0 win over the visiting Langley Rivermen.  The shutout victory turned out to be a big one for the franchise as it moved goaltender Hobie Hedquist into top spot in the franchises all-time shutout list with the 7th of his career.  Hedquist passed Frank Slubowski who’s 6 career shutouts had led the way since 2011.

The Bulldogs scored twice shorthanded to jump out to a 2-0 lead. The goals cam on the same kill and gave the Bulldogs their league-leading 10th and 11th shorthanded goals of the season in the process.  The Cranbrook Bucks and Trail Smoke Eaters are tied for 2nd in the BCHL with 4 each.

The Eagles are coming off a pair of losses in extra time. On January 8th they fell 4-3 in a shootout to Coquitlam, and last night the dropped a 4-3OT decision in Nanaimo in a battle of the top 2 teams in the Coastal Conference.  Despite the losses, Surrey has points in 6 straight games, matching the Bulldogs current streak. Surrey enters action tonight with just 2 regulation losses in their past 10 games.

Surrey defeated the Bulldogs 4-2 on Dec 16th in the only head to head match up this season.  The Bulldogs have a 3-1-0-0 record against the Eagles at the Multiplex over the past 5 seasons. The Bulldogs are currently sporting a record of 9-6-0-1 at the Dawg Pound this season and have won 4 straight at home.
