Bulldogs Open Preseason with 5-1 win over the Cowichan Capitals

The Bulldogs scored 4 first period goals on their way to an impressive 5-1 preseason win over the Cowichan Valley Capitals on Friday evening to kick off their 2020-2021 season in earnest.

While the regular season would usually be long underway by now, 2020-2021 has proven to be anything but usual. In front of an empty Alberni Valley Multiplex, the Bulldogs took months of frustrations out on the Capitals on the scoresheet scoring early and often.

Tyler Kostelecky who missed almost all of last season with a season ending shoulder injury opened the scoring just :52 seconds into the game.  Returning forward Oliver Fizet scored his first of 2 opening period goals which sandwiched rookie Ethan Bono’s first BCHL goal to round out the first period at 4-0 AVB.  Shots in the opening period favoured the Bulldogs heavily at 11-1.

Cowichan’s Jacob Paler-Chow got the Caps on the board in the 2nd and despite Cowichan playing much better in the period, they still found themselves trailing 4-1 through 40.

The lone goal in the 3rd period came off the stick of 19 year-old newcomer Adam Jeffery with 4:05 to play in regulation time.

Jackson Glassford wasn’t tested mightily in this one and needed just 15 saves to earn the win in the Bulldogs crease. Lucas Pfeil was the busier of the two goalies on the night and made 27 saves for the Caps.

The Bulldogs were 2 for 4 with the man-advantage while Cowichan Valley was 0 for 3 with their power play chances.

The same two clubs will hit the Multiplex ice again tomorrow night for the 2nd game of their weekend set.

Three Stars:

*** Jimmy Rayhill – AVB (2 assists)
** Chase Klassen – AVB
* Oliver Fizet – AVB (2 goals)
