Bulldogs pounce on Kings in second period en route to a 3-1 win

PORT ALBERNI- The Alberni Valley Bulldogs won their fourth game in a row on Saturday night, 3-1 over the Powell River Kings at the Dawg Pound.

It was the first game back after the holiday break and the first game action in 21 days for the Bulldogs, who went into the break on a high note winning three straight games.

The game remained scoreless after the first twenty minutes last night with both teams notching 9 shots on goal.

In the second period the Bulldogs would pounce on the Kings with three goals in just 17 seconds.

First Tim Gould notched his 5th of the season after taking a pass from Caige Sterzer at 16:36 of the middle frame.

Just 8 seconds later Jackson Doucet would bury his 11th of the season to put the Bulldogs up 2-0. Then 9 seconds later Doucet would get his second of the game and 12th of the season off a great pass from Jimmy Rayhill.

The Kings would strike at the 18:02 mark of the second to cut the Bulldogs lead to 3-1.

In the third the Kings would take over out shooting the Bulldogs 14-3 but Jackson Glassford would stand tall in goal making some terrific saves. The Bulldogs would hold on for the 3-1 win

and improve to 21-14-0-2 on the season .Glassford made 33 saves in the win and picked up third star honors.

The two teams will meet again tonight at the Dawg Pound, in a makeup game from Friday that was postponed due the the weather.

It will be the sixth meeting of the season, the Kings lead the regular season series 3-2.

Puck drop at the Dawg Pound on Sunday is 6 PM. Tickets from Friday’s game will be honored at the gate.
