Jacob Terpstra scored the winner six minutes into the third period as the Bulldogs won a third straight game Wednesday night at the Dawg Pound 4-3 over the Langley Rivermen
The Bulldogs jumped out to a 1-0 lead five minutes into the game, as Teague McAllister stuffed home an end-board bounce off of a Grady Magner set up. It was 2-0 three minutes later, as Brandon Gill relayed the puck to Jacob Terpstra behind the net, where he set up Kai Matthew on the doorstep where he made no mistake with a one timer past the blocker of Maverick Avent. Following the goal, Owen Lunneborg made a solid save on a rebound at the side of the net to preserve the lead.
Lunneborg came up with a highlight reel glove save on a cross-crease set up for Aaron Reierson three minutes into the second to again preserve the lead, and the Bulldogs went up 3-0 during four on four hockey nine minutes into the period on a give and go on the rush as Grady Magner found Teague McAllister walking to the net, where he dished off to Samuel Leonard. McAllister went to the net and Leonard gave it back to him across the crease, and he hammered it home to make it 3-0. Langley would respond to get on the board on the power play with 7:35 to play in the period, as Sam Allaby set up Tanner Winegard at the top of the slot for a one-timer that he blasted off Lunneborg and in to make it 3-1 Bulldogs after 40 minutes.
Langley trimmed the gap to 3-2 three minutes into the third, as Harshaan Kaila knocked his own rebound home inside the post. Just under two minutes later it was 3-3, as Aaron Reierson scored from just off the crease on a set up from behind the goal line. The Bulldogs retook the lead exactly a minute later, as Jacob Terpstra walked into the zone and put a wrist shot through the legs of a defender, off the crossbar and in to make it 4-3, with assists to Grady Magner and Kai Matthew. The Bulldogs looked for more while on the power play, but it was instead Lunneborg making a breakaway save on Aaron Reierson to preserve the lead with six minutes to play in the third.
Shots were 35-30 Bulldogs, with Owen Lunneborg earning the win in net while Maverick Avent took the loss. The Bulldogs went 0 for 5 on the power play while the Rivermen went 1 for 3.
The Bulldogs next see action Friday at the Dawg Pound when they host the Nanaimo Clippers for their annual Teddy Bear Toss game.
