The Alberni Valley Bulldogs put the finishing touches on a solid preseason with a 6-0 shutout victory over the Cowichan Valley Capitals at the Dawg Pound on Saturday night.
The story of the preseason for the Bulldogs was the solid play of 20-year old goaltender Callum Tung. Tung shutout the Nanaimo Clippers to open the preseason with a 34 save performance, and followed that up last night by stopping all 31 shots the Caps fired his way. Two starts, two shutouts, not a bad way to get tuned up for a big season.
After a goal from defenceman Tim Porter in the first period, the Bulldogs blew the game open in the 2nd frame with goals from Cole Bishop (2nd), Braden Blace (1st) and Zeke Nicholson (3rd) to take a 4-0 lead into the 3rd period.
In the 3rd, Porter got his 2nd of the night as a point blast found the back of the net, and Jack Ziliotto closed out the scoring with his 3rd of the preseason to make the 6-0 final.
The Bulldogs finished the preseason with a record 3-1 and will now turn their attention to doing it for real beginning on Friday in Coquitlam when they take on the Express to kickoff the 2023-2024 season.
