Clippers top Bulldogs 4-3 in overtime on power play winner

A multi goal comeback was again halted with an overtime power play winner for the visitors as the Clippers beat the Bulldogs 4-3 in overtime Friday night at the Dawg Pound

The first period of play saw the Bulldogs come out with good jump and an edge in the chances early. A ugly incident saw Leith Hunter receive a blow to the head and result in him being unable to leave the ice, and he subsequently left the game. A minor penalty was called on the play, and a video review of the play resulted in a minor penalty. The Bulldogs threatened on the advantage, but they were unable to score on it. Eliot Seguin-Lescarbeau made two solid saves on an Eric Lund breakaway and a cross-ice one-timer by Kai Matthew as it stayed scoreless through twenty minutes.

The Clippers took a 1-0 lead early in the second, on a wrist shot off the far circle by Nathan Larioza on the rush past the blocker of Owen Lunneborg. The score stayed that way into the final four minutes of the period, when the Clippers doubled their lead on a faceoff in the attacking zone that hit the post and came back onto the stick of Elliott Perreault who buried it into the open side to make it 2-0. Just 1:11 later a big shift saw the Bulldogs push hard to send the Teddy Bears flying as Jacob Terpstra poked a rebound home in the slot through the legs of Seguin-Lescarbeau to make it 2-1, from Brandon Gill and Caden Tremblay. Under a minute later the Clippers took the lead back, as a defensive breakdown saw Tanner Breunder score blocker side from the far circle to make it 3-1 after 40 minutes.

The Bulldogs got within one two minutes into the third, as Wyatt Blace drove the net during four-aside hockey and scored high glove, with Caden Tremblay and Patrick Vogl deserving the assists. It was 3-3 at the nine minute mark, as Jacob Terpstra scored his second of the game on a cross-ice set up by Kai Matthew as he blew a one-timer home into a wide open net. The game would go to overtime, where a penalty was called on Caden Tremblay, that was held up after a lenthy video review. Seconds into the advantage, Tanner Bruender walked to the net and flipped a backhand off the post glove side and in to make it a 4-3 final.

Final shots were 36-30 Bulldogs, with Eliot Seguin-Lescarbeau earning the win, while Owen Lunneborg took the loss. The Bulldogs went 0 for 2 on the power play while the Clippers went 1 for 2.

The Bulldogs are next in action tomorrow when they visit the Cowichan Valley Capitals.
