The Eagles got off to a blazing start, taking a 1-0 lead on a Miles Burgin breakaway finished high blocker side on Colin WInn just over a minute into the game. It was 2-0 before the game was five minutes old, as Ryan Evenhuis tipped in a point shot. Massimo Fazio made it 3-0 with under nine minutes to play in the first on a wide open look from the slot, finished blocker side on Winn.
Surrey padded their lead to 4-0 just a minute into the second, as Miles Burgin walked in tight on the rush and went high-short-side on Winn. The Bulldogs responded in the back half of the period, with Cole Bishop scoring a sharp angle one-timer that he snuck by Aiden Fischer.
The only goal the rest of the way was a Carter Frankiw empty netter with under four minutes to play, to make it a 5-1 final.
Shots were 26-25 Surrey, with Aidan Fischer earning the win while Colin WInn took the loss. The Bulldogs went 0 for 2 on the power play while the Eagles went 0 for 1.
The series shifts back to the Dawg Pound for games two and three Tuesday and Wednesday.
