The Alberni Valley Bulldogs picked up a 5–2 win over the Powell River Kings Friday night at the Dawg Pound, responding strongly after an early deficit and building momentum before the first intermission.

Powell River struck first at 9:49 of the opening period, but the Bulldogs responded quickly.

Kye Benoche tied it at 1–1 just over a minute later with a feed from Brendan DeFeo. Wyatt Davis gave Alberni Valley the lead on the power play at 14:05, assisted by Brandon Gill and Caden Tremblay. Hugo Daniel extended the advantage at 17:08 with helpers from Ryan George and Wyatt Blace.

Then came a milestone moment: Eduard Mishikov scored his first BCHL goal at 19:00, assisted by Roy Chung and Wassim Rabbath, capping off a four-goal first period and giving the Bulldogs a 4–1 lead.

Scoreless but Physical Second

The second period saw no scoring but plenty of physical play and special teams action. The Bulldogs went 1-for-8 on the power play while killing all four Powell River opportunities. Strong defensive structure and steady goaltending kept the Kings from gaining momentum.

McAllister Adds Insurance

Teague McAllister scored the lone goal of the third at 11:50, finishing a crisp passing play from Eric Lund and Wyatt Davis to make it 5–1. Powell River converted a late penalty shot, but Alberni Valley held on for the 5–2 final.

Standout Performances

Captain Caden Tremblay was named FortisBC Energy Player of the Game.

Derik Brouillard was outstanding in net, stopping 32 of 34 shots to earn First Star honours. Alberni Valley finished with 46 shots on Powell River netminder Devin Peck, consistently generating pressure throughout the game.

Three Stars

1st Star: Derik Brouillard (AV) – 32 saves
2nd Star: Wyatt Davis (AV) – 1 goal, 1 assist
3rd Star: Hugo Daniel (AV) – 1 goal

A strong response after an early deficit and Mishikov’s first BCHL goal helped the Bulldogs earn two well-deserved points on home ice.

Bulldogs are back at it tomorrow evening at the Dawg Pound when they take on the Chilliwack Chiefs. Puck drops at 7pm.
