Hammer’s Weekly Preview

The Bulldogs are back in action this week after their four game in five day trip with three games on their schedule. Thursday night the Surrey Eagles pay their first visit of the season to the Dog Pound. The Nanaimo Clippers are at the Pound for the second time this season on Saturday night, before the Dogs make their first visit of the season to Powell River for a meeting with the Kings on Sunday afternoon.

The Eagles will enter play Thursday with a record of 8-12-0 and 1, good for fourth place in the Mainland Division. The Eagles trounced the Dogs in the only previous meeting of the teams with a 7-1 win October 24th in Surrey.  The Eagles were last in action Saturday night at home where they dropped a 1-0 double overtime heartbreaker at home to the Nanaimo Clippers.

Shots favoured Surrey 44-26 with Tommy Tartaglione taking the loss in goal. Special teams were a non-factor with the Eagles going 0 for 3 on the power play while the Clippers were 0 for 2.

While the Eagles have lost two straight entering play Thursday, they have been playing good hockey as of late. They won five in a row before dropping their last two.

Thursday?s pregame show from the Dog Pound is on the air at 6:45 with the puck drop and all the play-by-play at 7:00pm. Catch all the action on 93.3 The Peak FM or the BCHL Fanzone

Saturday marks the fourth meeting of the season between the Dogs and Clippers, and the second at the Dog Pound. The Clippers are a perfect 3 and 0 against the Dogs so far this year. The last meeting was October 17th in Port Alberni, where the Clippers built up a 2-0 lead late in the first period that they would never relinquish. The Dogs twice battled back to make it a one goal game, but both times the Clippers fired back quickly to go back up by two goals.

The Clippers enter play this week with a record of 14-5-0 and 3, good for second spot in the Island Division, just a point behind the first place Victoria Grizzlies with two games in hand. The Clippers were last in action on Saturday where they bounced back from a 7-4 defeat at the hands of the Langley Chiefs with the 1-0 double OT win over Surrey. Before they visit the Dogs on Saturday the Clippers will host the Eagles Friday at Frank Crane Arena.

Saturday?s pregame show from the Dog Pound kicks off at 6:45 with the puck dropping at 7:00. Get it all on 93.3 The Peak FM and the BCHL Fanzone

Sunday the Dogs will wake up and catch the Ferry over to Powell River to face the Kings for the third time this season, but this will be the first meeting on the King ice. The Dogs have had success against the Kings this season, taking 3 out of 4 points with an overtime loss and a 3-2 win (their first of the season) in the previous two meetings.

The Kings enter play this week in top spot in the BCHL standings with 38 points and a record of 18-8-1 and 1. The Kings have lost two in a row at the time of this writing. They were last in action on Sunday afternoon where they dropped a 5-4 overtime decision to the Capitals in Duncan. Before the Dogs visit on Sunday, the Kings host the Victoria Grizzlies on Friday night before having Saturday night off.

Sunday?s pregame show from the Powell River Recreation Complex starts at 1:45 with the play-by-play of all the action at 2:00. As always, get it on The Peak and the BCHL Fanzone
