Offence Sputters in Loss to Caps

It was Deja Vu all over again for the Alberni Valley Bulldogs as they dropped another 3-1 contest to the Cowichan Valley Capitals on Friday night in Duncan.

Less than a week after being stymied by MacCoy Bidewell, the Bulldogs ran into yet another hot Capitals goalie as Lucas Renaud stopped 36 of 37 Bulldogs shots in the victory.

Callum Tung made his BCHL debut and turned aside 29 of 32 shots in defeat.  Tung was particularly good in the opening period as he stopped 15 of 16 shots to keep the Bulldogs in the game as it got started.

Nicholas Beneteau scored the lone goal for the Bulldogs late in the 3rd with the net-empty as the Bulldogs looked for a spark.  Despite a final push, the Bulldogs couldn’t close the gap further.

The Bulldogs offence has struggled through the clubs first 3 games as they’ve managed just 4 goals in regulation time this season.

The power play wasn’t a factor for either club tonight as the Bulldogs were 0 for 3, while the Caps were 0 for 2.

Up next for the Bulldogs is their home opener tomorrow night against the Powell River Kings. The Box Office will be open at 9:00 am.
