The newly implemented shootout came into play in the first day of games for the BCHL between the Cowichan Capitals and Alberni Valley Bulldogs where the Bulldogs would pull away with the 3-2 win at the Island Savings Centre in Duncan.
The first period was anything but quiet for both teams with tons of shots, hits and plays however both goaltenders would stand their ground and allow no goals.
During the second period a solo effort from Dawson Tritt would get the Bulldogs on the board first at 7:52 with a wraparound goal, which would be the lone tally in the second period.
The Capitals would score two unanswered goals in the third period to take the lead however at the 14:08 mark Evan Googins turned on the jets to byspace the defender and score top corner which would send the game to overtime.
Nothing was settled in the 3-on-3 overtime so the game was headed to a 3 person shootout where Jackson Doucet would kick things off with a goal, which proved to be the game winner a no Capitals player could score on John Hawthorne.
The Bulldogs are next in action Sunday in Nanaimo to take on the Nanaimo Clippers.
