Winners of 5 Straight, Bulldogs Host Kings at 2pm

The Alberni Valley Bulldogs (11-4-0-0) will host the Powell River Kings (4-8-2-0) looking for their 6th straight win this afternoon at 2pm. Today’s game is presented by Tim Hortons.

The Bulldogs are coming off a well-earned 5-2 victory on Friday night over the Victoria Grizzlies.  On paper, this one is a little tougher to get up for.  Today’s matchup is the first time these clubs have seen each other this season, however if last season was any indication, these two clubs usually find a way to make games interesting.

It’s a tough stretch for Powell River as today’s game is the 3rd in two and a half days for the Kings.  Friday they were at home to Trail and wiped out the Smokies 8-0.  Last night the Kings went toe-to-toe with the Grizzlies before falling 3-2 in OT.

During the 22-23 season the Bulldogs were 5-2-0-0 against the Kings.  Overall the Bulldogs are 8-4-0-0 against the Kings at the Dawg Pound.

Hlib Artsatbanov is expected to draw the starting assignment in goal this afternoon.  His last start produced a 5-3 win over Cranbrook at the Showcase in Seattle.  Artsatbanov made 31 saves in the win.  On the year, Artsatbanov is 3-1-0-0 with a 3.10 GAA and a .917 save percentage.  That .917 save % is good for 5th overall in the BCHL rankings.

Artsatbanov and the Bulldogs will have to contend with one of the BCHL’s most formidable duo’s this afternoon.  Anthony Yu is tied for the league lead in scoring with 23 points, while Noah Eyre is right behind him with 21 points.  The Kings attach also featured defenceman Will Jones who is 3rd in defensive scoring with 17 points on the year.

This promises to be a great afternoon and we hop you can join us! The Box office opens at 10:00 am or you can skip the trip to the rink, and purchase you tickets online by CLICKING HERE
