Alberni Valley announces new Team Leadership Structure

After gauging the progress of the team through the first quarter of the season, the coaching staff and management of the Alberni Valley Bulldogs announce the following changes to the team?s leadership structure:

– The Captaincy of the team will shift from Isaac Smeltzer to Daniel Moriarty.  Smeltzer will remain as an assistant captain

– Evan Michalchuk will no longer be an assistant captain.  That duty has been shifted to Lee Patzer

– Sawyer Eichel will retain his assistant captaincy duties

Bulldogs Head Coach and General Manager Alan Kerr commented on the leadership changes on Alberni Chrysler?s ?Bulldogs This Week? Tuesday night on 93.3 The Peak FM

?If we picked our Captains and Assistants today knowing what we do now, these are the players that we would have in these roles. In fairness to Evan Michalchuk and Isaac Smeltzer, they did nothing wrong as leaders.  They played hard and did everything they could but when the team doesn?t go how you want it to go, changes have to be made.  Without dismantling the team and making significant changes we felt that this was an interim step to see how the team would react?

Kerr also added

?I believe that Isaac Smeltzer and Evan Michalchuk will both benefit from this and will both play better as a result.  These players were carrying a lot of weight on their shoulders.  Our hope is that Isaac and Evan will focus more on themselves and their games and in turn the team as a whole will benefit.

?Daniel and Lee both exemplify everything we stand for as a team.  We owe it to the people of the Alberni Valley and our fans to be competitive?we have to work hard.  If there are ways to make our team better, we will do it.  We believe that this will make our team better?
