Bono’s Hat Trick Leads Bulldogs to OT Win

Ethan Bono’s 3rd of the night capped off a come from behind 4-3 OT win over the Cowichan Valley Capitals before another “sold out” crowd of 950 people at the Alberni Valley Multiplex on Saturday night.

It wasn’t pretty to say the least.  In fact, the Bulldogs never led in the game until Bono ended in overtime.  The Capitals were full marks for their effort on Saturday night, and it looked like they might escape with another win over the Bulldogs before Bono rallied the Bulldogs not once, but twice.

Shane LaVelle scored his 2nd of the night at 13:46 of the 3rd period to give the Caps a 3-2 lead before Bono tied it just over two minutes later to force overtime. Bono would win it for the Bulldogs on a tremendous effort to beat May 1:24 into the 4th period.

Bono’s hat trick was the 1st of his BCHL career and it now gives him 12 goals on the season. The other Bulldogs goal in the win came from Josh Van Unen in the 1st period, it was his 14th of the season.

Hayden Dunford earned the win in goal for the Bulldogs as he stopped 18 of 21 Caps shots for his 4th win of the season, while Evan May stopped 26 of 30 for Cowichan.

The win was a crucial one for the Bulldogs who kept pace with Nanaimo in Coastal Conference.  The Clippers and Bulldogs even made up some ground on the Langley Rivermen who dropped a lopsided decision to the Chilliwack Chiefs. The Bulldogs are now 24-12-3-1 on the year and improved to 13-3-2-0 at the Dawg Pound.

The upcoming week is a busy one for the Bulldogs who are home to Powell River on Wednesday, visit Victoria on Friday before returning home on Saturday to face Chilliwack.
