Bulldogs Acquire Express Captain Arlo Merritt

The Alberni Valley Bulldogs have acquired 2001 born forward Arlo Merritt from the Coquitlam Express in exchange for 2004 forward Mirko Buttazzoni and Future Considerations.

In Merritt, the Bulldogs are acquiring a 20-year old power forward who bring size and experience to the Bulldogs line-up.  The 6’3″, 205 pound Merritt was named the Express captain for the 2021-2022 season. In 25 games this season, Merritt has 12 goals and 8 assists for 20 points.

“Acquiring an experienced leader like Arlo is very good for our group.  We believe he can play in every situation and fits our team culture.” said Bulldogs head coach and general manager Joe Martin.

As the old adage goes, to get something you have to give something and the Bulldogs moved a solid young piece in Mirko Buttazzoni to bolster their line-up for the playoffs.

The rookie forward, just 17 years old burst onto the scene this season with the Bulldogs and earned a scholarship to Clarkson University.  Buttazzoni has 7 goals and 7 assists in 24 games during his rookie campaign.  The move sends Buttazzoni closer to home on the lower mainland.

Merritt will join his new teammates tomorrow and will be in the line-up on Saturday night when the Bulldogs host the Nanaimo Clippers at 7:00 pm.
