Bulldogs Drop Decision to Grizzlies

The Bulldogs travelled to the Bear Mountain Arena Saturday night to take on the Victoria Grizzlies in front of a packed house.

Justin Courtnall scored the only goal of the first period, set up by Derek Lee to give the Grizzlies a 1-0 lead heading into the intermission.  In the second period, Jonathan Milhouse scored early to extend the lead to 2-0. The Bulldogs quickly cut the lead in half when Branden Gracel scored just 17 seconds later on a goal set up by Chris Moulson.  The Grizzlies took back their two goal lead when Brian Nugent scored with Lee Baldwin and Mike Hammond picking up assists. Captain James Kerr and Ben Payne both replied before the end of the period to tie things up going into the final frame. Evan Witt, Brett Mohler and Josh Pineiro drew the assists.  The third period was a goaltenders battle with neither team able to score, and avoid overtime. Less than a minute into the overtime period, Justin Courtnall scored his second of the game to give the Grizzlies the win.

Anthony Greico picked up the win in the Grizzlies goal, stopping 16 shots. Matthew Wong, the games First Star, turned aside 39 shots in the loss for the Bulldogs.

Notes: Branden Gracel picked up his first BCHL goal in the second period. Evan Witt is the third Bulldog to record multiple point games this season, picking up two assists in the second period.  Next action for the Bulldogs is Thursday September 25th, 2008 when they host the Quesnel Millionaires.
