Bulldogs Fight Grizzlies, Hunger

The Bulldogs kick off their second straight week with four games on tap with another Tuesday night home game. The opposition this go around will be the Victoria Grizzlies.
The Bulldogs enter play this week the 18th ranked team in the country, with a record of 22-9-1 and 2, good for a first place tie with the Surrey Eagles atop the Coastal Conference. The Grizzlies have a record of 16-11-2 and 3 for 37 points and a fourth place tie with the Nanaimo Clippers.
This will be the seventh meeting of the season between the two clubs, with the Dogs winning the last two games 4-0 at the Bear Mountain Arena last Friday, and 4-2 at the Dog Pound the Friday before that. In the six games this season, the Dogs have a record of 4-1-1-0 for 9 points. The Grizzlies have the opposite, 1-4-1-0 with the only game in overtime between the two teams ending in a tie.
The Grizzlies were last in action Saturday night as they dropped the Surrey Eagles by a score of 6 to 3 at the Bear Mountain Arena. The Eagles would get the upper claw in this one early, scoring two power play goals before the game was eight minutes old to lead 2-0. The Grizzlies would get into the game just two minutes later when Dustin Mowrey found the net on the power play for a 2-1 score after one. Mowrey would add the only goal of the second to tie the game at 2-2 heading into the third where the Grizzlies exploded with four straight goals from Wade Murphy, Graeme McCormack, Brandon Fagerheim and Joel Lowry (on the power play) for a 6-2 lead before the Eagles added one late one for the 6-3 final.
Shots favoured the Grizzlies 35-32 with Ryan Holfeld picking up the win in net. The Grizzlies were 2 for 3 on the power play while the Eagles were 2 for 6.
The games between these teams have been hard fought ones for the most part so expect Tuesday to be no different. Points are again crucial for both teams. This will be the game that the Dogs have ?in hand? on the Eagles, so it?s a chance for them to pull into first place by themselves, something they haven?t yet accomplished this season. For the Grizzlies the points are big because not only are they tied for fourth in the Conference with the Clippers, they are only five points behind the third placed Kings with two games in hand.
Fans are encouraged to help the Bulldogs raise the weight of the team (4002 pounds) in non perishable food items in their ?Building a Better Community by Fighting Hunger Today? campaign where they have teamed up with the ADSS Leadership Class. Anyone that brings a non-perishable food item to the game will have a chance to win a turkey or ham!
