Andrea Meunier struck twice to lead the Alberni Valley Bulldogs to a 5-1 victory over the visiting Cowichan Valley Capitals Tuesday night at the Multiplex.
The Bulldogs held period leads of 1-0, and 3-1 before adding the only two in the third frame. Singles came from Eric Lund, Bodgan Rogushkin and Eduard Mishikov, while Maksims Saperins added a pair of assists. The Capitals responded with a tally from Roan Burgess.
Alberni Valley’s power play was key, going 3 for 3, while shutting down Cowichan’s only man advantage.
The Bulldogs heavily out shot the Capitals by a margin of 49 to 22 on the night.
Both clubs swapped their goaltenders mid way through the second frame. Dayton Kitchener got the start for the homeside, stopping all 10 shots he faced, while Ivan Kastelan kicked out 11 of 12 in the back half of the contest. For the visitors Noah Sinagowitz was busy making 23 saves of 26 attempts before Nevan Coburn came in with 21 stops on 23 attempts.
Up next, Alberni Valley will host Victoria in Exhibition action Friday at 7pm.
