Bulldogs Set Franchise Record for Wins

The Dogs only action of the week was Saturday night as the Quesnel Millionaires visited the Dog Pound. Both teams came out of the gate with good pace, but it was the Dogs that found the net first early into a power play chance as Mark MacMillan banged in an end board bounce off a Kevin Ross point shot.

David Dziurzynski also picked up an assist 6:12 into the first. Late in the period the Millionaires would go to the power play, but it would be the Dogs that found the net when Matt Hatch picked up a loose puck on a clearing attempt at centre and raced in on the shorthanded breakaway where he beat Luke Siemens low stick side to make it 2-0 Dogs. The goal was un-assisted at 18:39 of the first.  There would be no scoring in the second period but there were several close calls as each team hit the posts behind the goalies. The Dogs finally got some insurance early in the third when Mark MacMillan went top corner far side on Siemens on a backhand in tight to make it 3-0 just 3:20 into the third. David Dziurzynski and Adam Hout picked up the helpers. The Dogs built their lead to 4-0 just short of the halfway mark of the third on the power play when Mitch MacMillan banged in a rebound in tight off a Kevin Ross point shot. Mark MacMillan also picked up an assist 9:50 into the third. That would do it for the scoring as neither team found the net the rest of the way.
Final shots favoured the Dogs 35-27. Frank Slubowski picked up the win, his fourth shutout of the season, and second star honours. Luke Siemens took the loss. The Dogs were 2 for 6 on the power play while the Mills went 0 for 7.
With the win the Dogs break the team record for wins in a season with their 44th of the campaign. The two points they picked up also tie them with the 2005-2006 edition of the team for most points earned in a season with 91. Next up for the Dogs is their final two games of the regular season before they head into the playoff bye. Friday night they will travel to the Frank Crane Arena to face the Clippers before they return to the Pound to wrap up the regular season Saturday night when the Langley Chiefs are in town.
