Bulldogs Surge Past Spruce Kings with a Big 3rd Period

The Alberni Valley Bulldogs struck 6 times in the 3rd period on Monday afternoon at the Dawg Pound as they defeated the Prince George Spruce Kings by a 7-3 score.

Trailing 2-1 after 40 minutes, Matt Kursonis scored an early 3rd period power play goal to pull the Bulldogs even at 2-2.  After watching PG regain the lead at 3-2, the Bulldogs exploded for 5 goals in a six minute stretch to pull away and secure a much needed victory.

Hayden Stavroff had a pair of goals, his 25th & 26th of the season.  Stavroff is now tied with West Kelowna’s Felix Caron for the BCHL lead in goals. Other Bulldogs markers came from Jax Wismer (5th), Jacob Terpstra (12th), Nicholas Beneteau (14th) and Ronan Buckberger (1st).  Beneteau also chipped in for a pair of assists for a 3 point day.  Beneteau leads the BCHL with 39 assists and his 53 points have him tied for 2nd in league scoring overall.

Hlib Artsatbanov earned his 8th win of the year in goal for the Bulldogs as he made 36 saves.

The Bulldogs were 3 for 5 with the man advantage on the afternoon.

With the win the Bulldogs improved to 25-15-1-0 on the season, good for 3rd in the Coastal Conference standings.

Next up for the Bulldogs are a pair of road games in Powell River against the Kings on Friday & Saturday.
