Port Alberni, BC – Tonight the Alberni Valley Bulldogs unveiled the team’s third jerseys when playing host to the Victoria Grizzlies.
The design and concept is dedicated to Bulldogs alumni David Dziurzynski who played for the Bulldogs only for one season in 2009/10 but made a significant impact on the team and community.
Dziurzynski tallied 21 goals and 53 assists for 74 points in 57 regular season games. Dziurzynski also followed that performance up with 19 points in 13 playoff games.
Following the 2009/10 season, Dziurzynski accomplished something rare in hockey by signing a pro contract immediately out of the BCHL. The Ottawa Senators signed Dziurzynski and he appeared in 12 games for the Ottawa Senators during the 2012/13 season.
Prior to making his NHL debut, Dziurzynski helped the Binghamton Senators win the AHL Calder Cup Championship in 2010/11.
The third jerseys are patterned after the 1917 Ottawa Senators and the 2011 Binghamton Senators vintage jerseys worn by Dziurzynski. Since the colour scheme fits the Bulldogs’ colours, it was a great way to honour the accomplishments of one of the many Bulldogs alumni that have gone on to succeed at the NCAA and pro level, in this case David Dziurzynski.
