Caps Stun Bulldogs in Costly Loss

The Alberni Valley Bulldogs suffered a 5-3 loss to the hands of the Cowichan Valley Capitals in Duncan on Wednesday night.

Josh Zary (20th), Stephen Castagna (13th), and Josh Van Unen (13th) all scored in the frustrating loss for the Bulldogs.

Despite outshooting the Caps 23-8 in the opening period, the Capitals and Bulldogs finished the first period tied 1-1.  The back breaker may have come in the 2nd as the Caps outscored the Bulldogs 3-1 to have a 4-2 lead after 40 minutes of play.

In the 3rd period, Cowichan chased Bulldogs starter Hobie Hedquist 2:06 into the frame as they extended their lead to 5-2. It was not Hedquist’s night as the Bulldogs goalie allowed 5 goals on 22 shots.  Hayden Dunford was tested just once in relief as the Bulldogs outshot the Capitals 14-2 in the 3rd period.  Despite Van Unen pulling the Bulldogs to within 2 goals with just over 14 minutes remaining, the Bulldogs wouldn’t get any closer.

The loss dropped the Bulldogs record to 22-12-3-1 as they prepare to host the Coquitlam Express on Friday & the Caps again on Saturday.
