Dogs hammer Kings 9-1

The Bulldogs continued their string of road games Friday when they travelled to Powell River to face the Kings. The high pace of play was apparent just a dozen seconds into the game, and a dozen seconds later it was 1-0 Dogs as Evan Tironese gave the puck to Ryan Lough up the right wing where he flew up ice and gained the Kings line before dropping the puck back to Hunter Stewart who ripped a shot top corner, far side on Jonah Imoo. Assists went to Lough and Tironese at the 23 second mark. It was 2-0 Dogs at 3:39 when Teal Burns walked over the Kings line and undressed a defender before going against the grain and tucking it home on Imoo for the unassisted marker at 3:39. The Kings would wake up and push back to try and dent the lead, but the Dogs pushed back harder to take a 3-0 lead when Tryg Strand scored on his second attempt at a banker from behind the net, putting it off Imoo and in, with assists to Eric Walker and Bo Pellah at 10:31. A gorgeous goal made it 4-0 Dogs when they went end to end in a matter of seconds as Evan Tironese found Hunter Stewart on a rink-wide stretch pass where he threw the puck to the net onto the tape of a streaking Ryan Lough who deflected it home at 14:56. Just three minutes later the Dogs connected on the power play to lead 5-0 as Hunter Stewart one-timed a cross-crease pass home from Ryan Lough and Evan Tironese at 17:19. Stewart would complete the first period hat trick just half a minute later on a goal that was almost a carbon copy of the power play goal as Marlon Sabo set up Evan Tironese in the right circle where he again set up Stewart on a cross-crease one-timer to make it 6-0 at 17:53. The Kings would stop the celebration just over half a minute later when they found the net as Noah Henry’s shot from the right point deflected off a Bulldog stick and past the stick side of Jay Deo and just inside the post. Assists on the play went to J.P Villeneuve and Drew Dorantes at 18:30 of the first for a 6-1 Dogs lead after one.

The second period saw less action on the score sheet and a slower pace from the Dogs but they would eventually build the lead just the midway mark following a dust up between Eric Walker and J.J Coleshaw. Off the ensuing faceoff Hunter Stewart walked down the right wing on a partial break and threw a low shot on net that resulted in a rebound for Evan Tironese who tapped it home walking down the left wing driving the net at 10:56 of the second. Following another scrap late in the period the Dogs found the net again as Bo Pellah carried the puck up the left wing and dished off to Evan Tironese who then put a perfect cross-ice pass onto the tape of Chase Paylor who went top corner, short-side on Imoo at 19:18 of the second for a 8-1 Dogs lead after two.

The third period was tame by comparison to the rest of the game with only one goal to speak of as Jared Wilson took a pass from Mitch Makin at the left point that he one-timed on goal off a King stick and top corner on Braeden Ostepchuk, who entered the Kings net to play the third period. Tryg Strand also picked up an assist on the play at 13:33 of the third to make it 9-1. While the Dogs had a sizeable lead they still played a strong third period, continuing to play at both ends of the ice and not appearing to let any bad habits creep into their game.

Final shots favoured the Dogs 31-29 with Jay Deo picking up the win while Jonah Imoo took the loss. The Dogs went 1 for 4 on the power play while the Kings went 0 for 4.
