Dogs visit Grizzlies Friday, host Spruce Kings Saturday

The Bulldogs have two games on their schedule this weekend which gets going Friday night as they visit the Grizzlies at Bear Mountain Arena for the first meeting between the teams this season. Saturday night the Prince George Spruce Kings are in town for their only visit of 2010-2011 to the Dog Pound.
The Grizzlies enter play Friday night with a record of 3-4-0 and 1, good for 7 points. They were last in action Saturday night at home where they dropped a 4-1 decision to the Powell River Kings. The Grizzlies got the game started off well, taking a 1-0 lead before the first period was six minutes old on a Michael Colantone goal. Powell River would even it up in the final minutes of the first for a 1-1 tie after one. Neither team would find the net in the second for a 1-1 tie after 40 minutes, but the Kings surged ahead with a power play marker early in the third period to lead 2-1. Two goals in the final four minutes made it a 4-1 final.

The Kings outshot the Grizzlies 39-23 with Matt Ginn taking the loss but earning third star honours in the process. The Grizzlies went 0 for 8 on the power play while the Kings were 1 for 8.

This is the first meeting of the teams this season so it will be interesting to see if there is a feeling out process early. The Bulldogs will certainly be looking to avoid that as they will want to get everyone into the game early as they are playing their first road game since Game 1 of the season in Powell River.

The Dogs return home Saturday to host the Prince George Spruce Kings for the first of just two meetings this season between the two clubs.

The Spruce Kings opened up a four game in five day Island Road trip with a 7-4 loss to the Capitals in Duncan on Wednesday night. The game was a spirited affair featuring several multiple fight incidents so it?s possible several players could face suspensions that might see them out of action when the teams meet at the Dog Pound. Before visiting the Dogs on Saturday, the Spuce Kings will visit Nanaimo on Friday night.
