After a frustrating 3-1 loss to the Surrey Eagles on Friday night, the Bulldogs will need to turn the page quickly as they host the Cowichan Valley Capitals tonight at 7:00 pm.
Locked with Surrey in a 1-1 game, Manu Charbonneau was whistled for a questionable charging call with just over 6 minutes left in the 3rd period. On cue, the Eagles would get the go ahead goal on that power play and put the game away into the empty net a few minutes later. The loss ended the Bulldogs 8 game home ice winning streak.
Tonight the Bulldogs face the Cowichan Valley Capitals who have lost 3 straight games and are just 2-15-0-2 away from Duncan. The Capitals are playing for their playoff lives as they trail the Langley Rivermen by 4 points with 10 games remaining. This contest is the first of 3 straight games here at the Multiplex against the Capitals.
The Bulldogs (24-17-3-1) are deadlocked with Coquitlam with at points in the Coastal Conference standings.Victoria and Chilliwack are both hot on the Bulldogs heels. It’s a race most expect will come down to the wire. The loss to Surrey last night virtually ensures the Bulldogs will finish no higher than 3rd, so solidifying their standing, and home ice advantage in the opening round of the BCHL playoffs is crucial with just 9 games remaining.
Hobie Hedquist will return to the crease tonight after a rare night off. Campbell Arnold was solid in relief of Hedquist last night and certainly gave the Bulldogs a chance against the high-flying Eagles. Brandon Buhr also returned to the line-up for the Bulldogs after missing 6 games to injury.
Nicholas Beneteau extended his league leading point streak to 15 games as he picked up an assist on Will Elger’s 15th of the season last night. Beneteau has 26 points during the 15 game stretch.
