Kings 4 Dogs 2

The Bulldogs got off to a good start Sunday afternoon against the Kings, but it was Powell River who opened the scoring after going to an early power play as they connected on the rush when Stephen Hiff dropped the puck to Jarryd Leung who snapped it through the legs of Jay Deo. Brayden Low also assisted the power play goal at 4:10 of the first. The Dogs would even the game on a power play chance of their own later in the period just seven seconds into the advantage as Jared Wilson put a quick shot on net that was deflected in by Nathan Craft. Manny Gialedakis also picked up an assist on the play at 11:17 of the first and a 1-1 tie after 20 minutes.

The second period saw the Dogs get in penalty trouble as the Kings went to a 5 on 3 power play for over half a minute. While the Dogs would kill it thanks to several big saved by Jay Deo, the Kings scored just a second after the penalty elapsed as a cross-ice pass was tipped home by Brayen Low 4:15 into the second from Jarryd Leung and Stephen Hiff. The Dogs would have several power play chances of their own to try and find the equalizer, but they couldn’t get a bounce as the Kings led 2-1 after two periods.

The Bulldogs would kill off a penalty to begin the third to stay in the game, but another penalty shortly afterwards came back to bite them as Brayden Low deflected home a Jordan Burns shot from the right wing up and over Deo to make it 3-1 Kings 3:56 into the third with Jarryd Leung also picking up a helper. Full credit to the Kings as the Dogs weren’t able to get any sustained attack going to try and make a game of it. The Dogs would draw a late power play where they pulled their goalie in a last ditch gamble to get into it but it was instead the Kings sealing the deal shorthanded. The Dogs worked the puck around the Kings zone before misfiring on a one-timer that was found by Drew Dorantes who then hit the empty net. It was a solo effort but there was two assists as Jordan Paddock and Brandan Smith picked up the helpers at 17:26 of the third. The Dogs would finish the scoring with one of the prettiest goals seen all season that ended up all for naught as Jared Wilson carried the puck over the Kings line and through the defence before flipping a one-hander past the poke check of Ostepchuk. Mitch Crisanti and Chris Tracy picked up the assists on the power play goal with 1:31 to play for the 4-2 final score.

Final shots favoured the Kings 33-26 with Braeden Ostepchuk picking up the win while Jay Deo took the loss. The Dogs went 2 for 8 on the power play while the Kings went 2 for 5 while also scoring once shorthanded.
