Kieran Litterick scored the overtime winner while short handed, to lift the visiting Alberni Valley Bulldogs past the Brooks Bandits 6-5, Friday night.
Alberni Valley trailed 3-0 mid way through the game before scoring the next 4 to take their first lead, before the teams traded goals, sending the game to extra innings.
“As a whole, (resilience) is a good word to use, they didn’t quit.” said Head Coach and GM Joe Martin.
“It was a big hole to come back from, and they guys played well – we had some big goals.”
The Bulldogs snapped a two game skid, and improved to an even .500 with a 3-3 record, while ending the Bandits 4 game winning streak.
“The guys did a good job adjusting to a different style of hockey, fast and a lot of skill.”
Alberni got goals from 6 different skaters, with Gleb Semenov leading the way with a two point night. Ricards Rutkis and Malte Barthold scored their firsts for the club, while Arman Adamyan produced his team leading 6th. Andrea Meunier got the comeback started on the power play.
The Bulldogs out shot the Bandits 39-30 with Derik Brouillard earning the win and Yundi Cai picked up a point in the defeat.
Brooks scored twice on 5 on 3 and then the ensuing power play early in the second, to jump up to 3-0. They’d end up going 2 for 5 with the man advantage, and Alberni Valley struck once on three chances.
Making their debuts in red and black were forward Alex Levasseur, and rookie defenceman Jackson Meier.
It was the first of 4 games in 5 days for the Bulldogs who will play against the other Bulldogs in Blackfalds Saturday night at 6pm MT, and 5pm PT.
