Shorthanded Bulldogs Look for Revenge in Powell River

The Alberni Valley Bulldogs (25-16-1-0) play the 2nd of two games against the Powell River Kings (11-29-3-0) tonight at Hap Parker Arena.  Puck drop is set for 5 pm.

The Bulldogs dropped a sloppy 6-3 decision to the Kings in a game that turned out to be frustrating for more than just the final score.

The Bulldogs learned they will be without the services of the BCHL’s leading goal-scorer Hayden Stavroff for the next two games as the BCHL Department of Player Safety elected to upgrade a 2 minute minor for cross-checking to a 5 minute major for cross checking and a game misconduct.  Because the suspension is fewer than 3 games, there is no appeal mechanism.

“While we vehemently disagree with the Department of Player Safety’s ruling, all we can do is move on and rally around this as a team” said Bulldogs President David Michaud.

The Bulldogs will also be without the services of Caden Tremblay for the next 3 games as he was assessed a instigator plus fighting major after the final horn sounded.

Cole Bishop and Anthony Ip will draw into the line-up tonight to replace the pair.

After coming on in relief of Callum Tung last night, Vladislav Bryzgalov will earn the start in goal.
