Silverbacks Edge Bulldogs

The Salmon Arm Silverbacks knocked off the Alberni Valley Bulldogs by a 5-3 score on Saturday night at the Dawg Pound.  It was an entertaining game that had the feel of a heavyweight prize fight, but in the end, the Silverbacks won by decision.

Hayden Stavroff scored twice against his former team, and now has 18 goals on the season.  Mason Croucher also scored on the night, it was his 11th of the year and the goal moved him into a tie with Langley’s Luke Ashton for the BCHL lead in goals among defenceman.

The Bulldogs led 2-1 after 20 minutes, and the Silverbacks pulled even with a late 2nd period marker.  In the 3rd, the Silverbacks built up a 4-2 lead only to see the Bulldogs strike with the net empty to pull back to within one, but an empty netter sealed the victory for Salmon Arm in the final minute.

The loss dropped the Bulldogs record to 18-14-0-0 and they remain 4th place in the conference heading to Powell River for a pair of weekend games.
