Former Alberni Valley Bulldogs netminder Frank Slubowski of the University of Western Michigan Mustangs helped his team to a win and a tie last weekend at the Brice Alaska Goal Rush Tournament and subsequently was named his conference's goaltender of the week.
Slubowski stopped 24 shots in a 6-2 win Friday over the University of Alaska-Anchorage and then made 29 saves in a 3-3 tie with the University of Alaska-Fairbanks.
For the weekend, the Prince Rupert, B.C. native had a 2.41 goals-agains average, a .914 save percentage on 53 saves. For his efforts, Slubowski was also named to the all-tournament team along with former Coquitlam Express forward Garrick Perry.
In two seasons plus three as an affiliate with Alberni Valley, Slubowski compiled a 53-37-5 record in 101 games. He recorded six shutouts to go along with a 2.60 goals-against average and .912 save percentage.
