Evan Googins scored and added an assist on Saturday night in Duncan, but Brady Lynn’s third period goal stood up as the winner in a 3-2 defeat to the Cowichan Valley Capitals.
Googins opened the scoring early in the game when he blasted a wrist shot over the right shoulder of Capitals netminder Jack Grant, but the Caps drew even minutes later when Dimitri Mikrogiannakis slammed home a one-timer goal on a Cowichan power play.
The Caps took the lead on another man-advantage goal in the third period as Cruz Cote pounced on a rebound but it took only 12 seconds for Alberni to equalize as Googins won an offensive zone draw forward and pushed the puck over to Dawson Tritt for a tap-in. Lynn put Cowichan back in front with nine minutes left in regulation and the Bulldogs had a few Grade A chances late including a Mitch Deelstra breakaway attempt that was sent wide.
Demers was strong in goal once more with a 35-save performance.
The Bulldogs wrap up the regular season on Sunday at home to Powell River. Faceoff is set for 2:00 PM.
