The Alberni Valley Bulldogs knew the Spruce Kings would be a challenge before the bus left Port Alberni. Add in missing their top two centre’s and there was little the Bulldogs could manufacture in a 5-2 loss to Prince George on Wednesday night.
Missing Ethan Bono and Nicholas Beneteau proved too much for the Bulldogs to overcome against a solid Spruce Kings team. The clubs were even at 1-1 after 20, but it was all Spruce Kings from there. The Bulldogs managed just 5 shots in each of the 1st and 2nd periods as the Spruce Kings built a 3-2 after 40 minutes. John Herrington put the game away just 2:56 into the 3rd before Austin Fraser finished the scoring late in the 3rd.
Matthew Maltais had the other Bulldogs marker.
David Sacco made his Bulldogs and BCHL debut and earned 2 assists in the loss.
Campbell Arnold took the loss in goal for the Bulldogs as he allowed 5 goals 37 shots.
The loss dropped the Bulldogs record to 7-9-1-1 as they head to Salmon Arm for another tough test against the 11-6-0-1 Silverbacks.
