Ryul Kwon scored twice and added two assists to help lead the Blackfalds Bulldogs past the visiting Alberni Valley Bulldogs 5-0 Saturday night.
Netminder Nico Armellin made 19 saves for the clean sheet, while Dayton Kitchener kicked out 22 attempts in the defeat.
Blackfalds held period leads of 1-0 and 3-0, before adding a pair in the final frame to snap a 6 game losing streak.
“After a very emotional win on the road last night (in Brooks), maybe they weren’t as amped up for this one.” said Alberni Valley Assistant Coach Kyle Evans.
“When you don’t have your ‘A’ game, you have to figure out a way to win, and do a better job of adapting as the game goes on.”
The Bulldogs came out strong for the second period, but weren’t rewarded on the scoreboard.
“They put in the work for that stretch, and perhaps we deserved a couple bounces in that time frame – but that’s hockey sometimes.”
The squad from Vancouver Island saw their record fall to 3-4 on the season, and are now 1-1 on their 4 game in 5 day Alberta road swing.
Alberni Valley’s penalty killers shut down all 7 shorthanded situations, while locking down all 3 they faced.
Blackfalds out shot their guests 27-19 on the night.
Da Sol Kim chipped in with a pair of goals, while Matthew Croxal added a single.
Up next is the annual BCHL Showcase at Silence Ice near Edmonton, with Alberni Valley facing Spruce Grove Monday night at 7pm MT, 6pm PT.
