Bulldogs Come Up Short in Surrey

Despite a picture-perfect start, the Alberni Valley Bulldogs dropped a 4-2 decision to the Surrey Eagles on Friday night at the South Surrey Arena.

The Bulldogs opened the scoring just 20 seconds into the game when Nicholas Beneteau banged home a missed drive off the end wall and into the net. For Beneteau, the goal was his 9th of the year.

The Eagles even things up late in the 1st, and take their 1st lead of the night early in the 2nd.  Both goals came off the stick of Jacob Bonkowski, his 14th and 15th of the season.

The Eagles would push their lead to 3-1 early in the 3rd period, before the Bulldogs got a power play goal from Chase Klassen.  For the captain it was his 4th of the year.

Alberni Valley pushed for the equalizer, and had a grade A chance off the stick of David Sacco in the slot, however a pad save from Eli Pulver preserved the lead before Ty Brassington put the game away at 14:29 of the 3rd period.

The shots were even at 33 each on the night. The Bulldogs were 1 for 3 with the man advantage, while the Eagles were 1 for 2.

The Bulldogs will now face the Langley Rivermen at the Lodge on Saturday night to close out the pre-Christmas portion of their schedule. Puck Drop is 7:15.
