The Alberni Valley Bulldogs are excited to announce the addition of Kyle Evans to team staff as an Assistant Coach, Cam McCarrick as Strength and Conditioning Coach, while promoting Ryan Rehill to Associate Coach.
The 34 year old Evans is from Caledonia, Ontario, and was the General Manager and Head Coach last season for the KIJHL’s Chase Heat. He held the same titles the previous season with the VIJHL’s Campbell River Storm.
Evans brings a wealth of experience from the Junior and Minor Hockey levels to the organization, having worked previously with the Saanich Predators, Cowichan Valley Capitals and the North Island Silvertips U17 and U18 teams.
On the addition of Evans, Bulldogs Head Coach and General Manager Joe Martin commented: “I’m excited to add Kyle to our team. He’s a great communicator with an abundance of passion for the game and he will complement and complete our hockey operations staff.”
Martin continued: “It’s a goal of our ownership group to continue to grow our brand, assist in local youth hockey development, and push for a BCHL championship. This hire allows Ryan, Kyle and myself to cover all available opportunities to ensure we are maximizing the potential of every player we coach”
In addition to the hiring of Evans, the Bulldogs have promoted Ryan Rehill to Associate Coach. The 29 year old Rehill first joined the organization in 2023-2024. He played four years with the Kamloops Blazers and was drafted in the fifth round of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft by the New Jersey Devils. He entered coaching after a five year career with the University of Alberta Golden Bears, where he won a USports National title in 2017-2018.
On the promotion of Rehill, Martin commented: “Ryan has been a key member of this franchise for a few years now. He’s an excellent coach, and my right hand man. He has taken over many roles for us, and has my absolute trust around all of our programs”
Last but not least, the Bulldogs have hired Cam McCarrick as Strength and Conditioning Coach. McCarrick comes from a hockey background, and has previously worked with major midget and VIJHL teams, the Nanaimo Clippers, and various college and pro-level athletes.
A Graduate of Vancouver Island University, Cameron obtained both a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Physical Education and a minor in History, as well as his Post-Baccalaureate in Education. He currently teaches at Alberni District Secondary School.
On the addition of McCarrick, Martin commented: “I’m excited to add Cam to our staff. He has a wealth of knowledge, and passion for helping athletes”
