Bulldogs Host Cowichan Vallley

The Alberni Valley Bulldogs are back in action Tuesday night as they host the Cowichan Valley Capitals for the second time this season. The only other previous meeting between the Dogs and Caps this was back on September 19th where the Dogs were 4-3 overtime winners after Mark MacMillan tied the game with four minutes to play and David Dziurzynski won it in the first overtime.
Much has happened since that game, with the Dogs steadily improving and showing they can win on a night to night basis. The Capitals have gone the other way, as they have had their struggles and changes at the top occurred as a result of them. Gone from the Head Coach Position was Scott Robinson, as he was replaced by Dale Purinton.
The Bulldogs enter Tuesday night with a record of 12-7-1 and 1, good for 26 points a tie with Langley for 3rd in the Coastal Conference. The Dogs have won two in a row, and now six of their last eight. They were recognized for their recent efforts on Monday as they received an ?Honourable Mention? when the latest Top 20 CJHL rankings of the top Junior A teams in the country came out.
The Capitals enter play with a record of 6-15-0 and 1, for 13 points and the last spot in the Conference. They are by no means out of it as they are only four points behind Burnaby and seven points behind sixth place Nanaimo. The Capitals have lost six in a row dating back to October 23rd. While they have lost six in a row – their last three losses were by a combined three goals so they are certainly in every game.
They were last in action Saturday night at home where they lost 3-2 to the Nanaimo Clippers. The Caps fell behind early with Nanaimo taking a 1-0 lead before the game was two minutes old. Before the first was out they evened it up on an un-assisted Shayne Taker goal for a 1-1 tie after 20 minutes. Anthony Perdicaro would score the only goal of the second on the power play just over five minutes in to put the Caps up 2-1 after two periods. It would be the Clippers scoring just past the seven minute mark of the first to tie the game at 2-2, before they found the winner with 3:22 to play for the 3-2 final.
The Clippers outshot the Capitals by a considerable margin, 35-14 with Alexandre Peck taking the loss but earning second star honours. The Capitals were 1 for 5 on the power play while the Clippers were 0 for 9.
This is certainly a challenge for the Dogs, as they will be facing a team in the lower end of the standings. The challenge will be to treat them like any other opponent, because if they don?t, they will most likely end up on the other end on the scoreboard. The Capitals were always a hard working team under Scott Robinson, and don?t expect that to change with Dale Purinton behind the bench.
