Bulldogs Keep Streak Alive

The Alberni Valley Bulldogs, riding a 3 game winning streak, took to the ice at the Cowichan Valley Community Centre to take on the Capitals Friday night.

The Capitals jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on the strength of a Nick Anderson goal just 1:29 into the first period.  Alex Gellert extended the Capitals lead before Warren Muir struck on the power play for the ?Dogs. The first also saw Captain Daniel Moriarty take on Josh Clare in a fight late in the period. Clare was also assessed a checking from behind penalty on the play.

The second period was a defensive battle with neither team finding the scoreboard. Despite the lack of scoring, the second featured two spirited fights, with Devin Braden and Evan Witt dropping the gloves for the Bulldogs.

The third period was all Bulldogs. Jordan Principalli evened the game with a power play marker set up by Chris Moulson and Marcello Ranallo. Warren Muir scored the eventual game winner with 9:05 remaining in the game. Principalli and Ranallo drew the assists.

Harrison May turned in an outstanding performance for the Bulldogs; turning aside 44 of the 46 shots the Capitals sent his way. Kiefer Smiley was tagged with the loss for the Capitals, stopping 19 shots.

Notes:  Referee Carl Pool had his hands full, as both teams combined for 61 minutes in penalties.  The Bulldogs scored on both power play opportunities they were given and continue to impress with their play with the man advantage.
